What is cardiology?

Cardiology is the study, diagnosis and medical treatment of diseases and disorders of the heart and blood vessels in children.

How do the heart and lungs work together?

The cardiovascular system works with the respiratory system to ensure that all living cells receive a constant supply of oxygen. The cardiovascular system pumps the oxygen around the body through blood vessels and the respiratory system allows the oxygen to enter the blood from inhaled air.

What is a congenital heart defect?

A congenital heart defect (CHD) is a defect in the structure of the heart and/or blood vessels in a newborn, usually caused by improper development of the heart during fetal development.

What is acquired heart disease?

Acquired heart disease means a heart condition has developed over time as a child grows older. Acquired heart disease can be prevented with healthy eating habits and exercise.
