Community supporters not only give donations, but also give the gift of time. Through bringing an activity or craft, sponsoring an event, organizing a drive or even just spending time with the kids, community partners have brightened the lives of many young patients at Miller Children’s. To be a community supporter or find out how you can help contact the Child Life Department at Internship Program & VolunteersIn partnership with many local colleges and universities, the Child Life Department at Miller Children’s Hospital has an exciting internship program that allows students to have a hands-on experience in a real hospital setting. College students, who are usually majoring in Childhood Development, have the opportunity to “shadow” Certified Child Life specialists and see the day-to-day work. Students also learn about important educational pieces such as preparing children for hospitalization and learning about medical play. A 480 hour internship is offered through the Child Life Department at Miller Children’s Hospital. To apply for a Child Life internship, fill out the Child Life Internship Application. |
More than a dozen celebrities from the Pro/Celebrity race of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach made a pit stop at Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach. Actor Adrien Brody of “King Kong,” Hill Harper of “CSI:NY,” reality star Brody Jenner, Kim Coates best known for “Sons of Anarchy,” Mixed Martial Arts fighter Cain Velasquez, comedian Adam Carolla and Eddie Cibrian from “CSI:Miami” and his wife country singer LeAnn Rimes Cibrian were among the competitors from the Toyota Pro/Celebrity race who went room to room visiting patients.
Since 1992, the child life program at Miller Children’s has received generous gifts from Toyota Motor Sales USA. Toyota donates money for each Pro/Celebrity driver to the “Racing for Kids Foundation”—a nonprofit fund-raising program that supports Miller Children’s and other children’s hospitals.
