Ground Floor
Henry L. Guenther Foundation Pediatric Surgical Center
Located on the ground floor, the Henry L. Guenther Foundation Pediatric Surgical Center includes seven state-of-the-art operating rooms and many features designed to increase comfort and reduce stress for both patients and their families. Before surgery, a play area gives kids a place to relax with books, games, arts and craft activities, and a TV. Trained Child Life Specialists help to further reduce anxiety by explaining surgical procedures to patients using child-friendly terminology and provide demonstrations using dolls when appropriate. Parents are encouraged to accompany their child into the operating suite and then greet him/her in the recovery unit.
Floor Plan
After taking the main elevators or the grand staircase down to the sea-themed ground level, patients and their families arrive at the Pediatric Surgical Center. The spacious family waiting area includes comfortable seating, ocean-inspired artwork, flat screen televisions, public restrooms and vending machines.
As patients and their families continue their journey through the surgical center, they are welcomed by a tranquil palette of blues and purples with soft geometric shapes and curves as they arrive in the playroom. The calming environment is designed to help reduce anxiety, while kids relax with arts and craft activities, games, books, and movies. Child Life Specialists spend time with each patient prior to surgery, providing age-appropriate preparation to help further reduce anxiety.
The Henry L. Guenther Foundation Pediatric Surgical Center includes seven state-of-the-art surgical suites, which are used to provide a wide range of surgical procedures, including minimally-invasive and single-incision procedures. Patient records, laboratory results and imaging studies are available to the surgical team at the touch of a button, while TV monitors are mounted strategically so patients can fall asleep watching their favorite movie.
After surgery, patients awaken in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), where they are closely monitored by the PACU staff. Family members are invited to stay with their child as they recover from surgery. Private recovery rooms with TVs are available for patients and their families, if additional recovery time is required.
