Homework Club

Miller Children’s encourages parents to bring their child’s books and homework assignments with them to the hospital. Having children keep up on their studies helps promote a sense of normalcy by maintaining a regular, daily childhood activity. Children tend to like the break from feeling like they are just in a hospital. It also helps children who need to stay in the hospital longer to stay on top of their studies, so they don’t feel behind when they return back to school.

A “resident teacher,” from the Long Beach Unified School District, helps keep patients up-to-speed on their studies while they are hospitalized by going bedside and doing age-appropriate homework assignments. Miller Children’s is also home to the smallest classroom in Long Beach. At times, classroom instruction takes place in our on-site classroom.
