Internships
Miller Children’s Hospital has internship opportunities available at the hospital for young professionals who are just embarking on their careers and want to learn more about a profession in the hospital environment.
The following internship opportunities are available, both clinical and non-clinical:
Clinical Pastoral Education
Through it’s partnership with Long Beach Memorial, Miller Children’s Hospital is an accredited site for Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) through the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy. CPE is theological and professional education for ministry, designed to encourage and nurture the professional/personal growth and development of pastoral and spiritual care providers.
In CPE, theology students, laity, ordained clergy and members of religious orders learn skills in ministry to assist persons in need. Through pastoral experience, written case studies, individual supervision, relevant reading and seminar participation, students are encouraged to develop caring pastoral relationships and skills. CPE also integrates the behavioral and theological sciences for the spiritual care provider’s use in pastoral experiences and ministry to persons in crisis.
The program is recognized by the Association of Theological School. Chaplain interns are provided educational opportunities in many areas such as: Myers Briggs, Temperament, Interaction Styles, Perinatal Loss, Death and Dying, Grief and Bereavement, Cross Cultural Awareness, Communication and Team Building, and Bio-ethics.
