Lactation Clinic Program
The MemorialCare Center for Women’s Outpatient Lactation Clinic provides assistance and support for women, while helping them to reach their breastfeeding goals. The clinic empowers women with evidence-based quality lactation education, improves and maintains the health status of mothers and babies through nutrition management and provides education to mothers during their breastfeeding experience.
Board-Certified Registered Nurse Lactation Consultants
Services are provided by board-certified registered nurse lactation consultants who have advanced training in breastfeeding management. All lactations consultants are experienced in counseling, teaching and problem solving with latching or other breast feeding issues for breastfeeding mothers.
Lactation Support
The MemorialCare Center for Women Lactation Clinic provides many lactation support services including in-hospital and outpatient consultations, breastfeeding aids, prenatal breastfeeding classes, mother and baby support groups, learning how to breastfeed with multiples and other situations that may arise during the breastfeeding experience.
- Breastfeeding Aids: Breastfeeding aids include nipple shields, feeding syringes and supplemental nursing systems.
- Support Groups: Mother and baby support groups help educate, support and reassure confidence in mothers throughout their breastfeeding experience, by sharing and communicating with other breastfeeding moms.
- Assistance: Lactation consultants assist mothers with pumping and breastfeeding and can help mothers of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) babies.
- Essentials Mother/Baby Store: This mother baby supply store located in the MemorialCare Center for Women has all the breastfeeding supplies that a new mother who is breastfeeding could possibly need.
Each lactation consultant visit will consist of observation of the baby breastfeeding, assessment of maternal and infant anatomy, evaluation of breastfeeding troubles, suggestions for resolving difficulties and assessment of infant weight loss or gain.
