Your First Clinic Visit

Your initial visit with a neurologist will begin with a family conference of your child’s current health, medical history and family history. If you were referred to Miller Children’s Neurology Center, please bring all prior paperwork, including neuroimaging test results and medical records. A clinic visit generally lasts up to an hour, but can be longer if your child needs a test or procedure. Also, inform your child’s doctor of any past operations or abnormal behavior that your child has had.

Come Prepared

  • Bring your insurance or referral information
  • Bring a list of any current medications
  • Neuroimaging test result
    — MRI
    — CT scans
    — Reports such as EEG or EMG
    — Reports of laboratory work
  • Inform the health care team of drug allergies
  • Write a list of questions that you may have for the doctor
  • Bring family history (if applicable)

The doctor will perform a complete physical examination. The neurologist may feel the need to order certain tests or suggest a procedure to improve your child’s condition. Questions during this time are always encouraged because it is very important that you understand your child’s situation fully and are comfortable with the treatment plan prescribed.
