Family Centered Care ApproachFamily centered care is an important part of a child’s recovery during hospitalization, even if it’s a surgical procedure where the patient doesn’t need to spend the night. The surgical care team partners with parents in the treatment process and can help parents prepare their child for a procedure. Child Life Specialists are available to give patients and their parents a surgical pre-admission tour of the surgical suites, the waiting area and the “Wake Up” room. Preparing a child before surgery using these techniques can lessen their anxieties and fears. A separate pre-surgical area is specially designed for children and their parents and offers a comfortable, child-friendly environment for families while they wait. We know that you will have many questions. Please do not hesitate to ask about anything. It is much better to ask a question than to worry. We respect your beliefs and culture and believe you should receive information about your child and their treatment. Everyone caring for you and your child wants to help you understand and cope with your child’s hospitalization. |
